The eternal knot, tracing an unbroken path without beginning or end, is characteristic of Celtic book decoration. Its origins lie in the plait motifs of the La Tene culture that flourished in Western Europe from 500 BC until the first century. Thereafter, intricate knot work continued to develop mainly in Ireland, culminating in the interlace patterning that characterizes of the 7th and 9th centuries. This detailed craftsmanship and months of painstaking labour produced ingenious eternal knot designs that can cover entire pages of gospels and other religious works. The Book of Kells can be viewed in Dublin at Trinity College sometimes known as the Book of Columba. This illuminated Gospel manuscript is of course written in Latin. The manuscript takes its name from the Abbey of Kells that was its home for hundreds of years.

All of our house signs and plaques are produced using only Irish limestone mostly from Kilkenny, Roscommon, Galway or the Burren. All of our pieces are unique because of the millions of years they have taken to form. When looking at the stone you will be amazed to see the small sea creatures in fossil form whose shells formed the limestone over countless millions of years. Thanks to those tiny creatures, your house plaque holds a slice of time millions of years old making this house plaque unique and an interesting addition to your home or an interesting and unusual present for a loved one. All our limestone is supplied by God and nature and worked by man.
